September in GA

I didn't realize how long it's been since I posted anything in the "blog" dept. From what I understand, one must keep blogging (as in yakking) to make any impression upon anyone! Ok, so I tend to be a yak-kitty person if you know me :-) I have also been known to get know folks online & be able to talk about most anything!! I am open to anyone who might want to ask questions...

My main reason for starting any blog site what-so-ever is that I love to bead. Stringing necklaces & bracelets and creating matching ear rings... or ear rings that have nothing to do with the previously mentioned items! Doesn't matter, I just love to put jewelry together with the beads that call to me!!

Today, I was able to spend the day with a couple of other beady friends and, while trying to get some beaded items ready for a church bazaar sale that's happening the end of October, I was greatly inspired by my friends' efforts. Add to that, I have had some very generous contributions of materials by one of these beady friends... I am very inspired by others!! I'm thinking I can do this! I can make some decent things that others will want.

Looking forward to experiencing my first public sale in October... :-) ;-)

Second blog: I'm learning!

Today, I successfully uploaded an image of Bear in one of my favorite photos of the boy. You see, when Bear wants attention, he does whatever he can to get it! On the day this photo was taken, he had already tried to take over my desk top (on the right) and I'd strongly encouraged him to step aside. So, he took over the side "wing" of the desk, then took this pose. I am very glad I had my camera handy!

When my neighbor comes to visit, she likes to sit in the chair that Bear has claimed as his very own. There is a side table between that chair & the recliner I like to sit in. Bear lets us know that he's been displaced by pushing things off the table, one at a time. I've learned to only keep things that don't break on there. He'll lay down, causing magazines & other light weight items to be distributed closer to the edge. Next, he'll look to see if anyone is watching. One by one, items will start to fall to the floor with a paw push, or a nose nudge. The tissue box is usually the first to go. Pen? One of his favorites to paw push because it will see-saw back and forth before finally succumbing to gravity. His brush, each magazine - all are fair game for his quest to clear the table top of everything. While it rarely gets him his chair back, it entertains both him and us!

There are things I need to accomplish before the weekend. Will be photographing my latest bead creation in my next writing.

First Time Blogger, Long Time Reader

OK, I'll admit this is not exactly the first time I've blogged. I played with it a long time ago on MySpace and didn't do enough to really get the hang of it. So I'm officially declaring myself a "newbie". My purpose for this blog site is to get used to talking about my beaded and other art. It's a type of marketing technique, from what I've read. Maybe, just maybe I can learn it!

I might also talk about Bear now and then. He's my very large, 3 1/2 yr. old Manx cat who has managed to create situations that lead to interesting stories quite often. When he was just a kitten, I had several stories a week. I should have learned how to blog back then! Now that he's a bit older, the stories are less frequent. He's maturing into more of a laid-back personality, but he still has his interesting quirks. As I'm typing this, he's trying to get my attention because he wants to go outside. He understands the words "outside" and "walk" as well as any dog and he only goes outside on a harness & lead, accompanied by me. I've met most of my neighbors due to the unique sight of a cat on a lead, as well as that cat being a very big, solid black cat with no tail. People remember his name even if they don't remember mine!

I've been working with beads to make jewelry for about 10 years. My original bead collection was started in the 70's when I was making macrame' wall hangings & plant hangers. The little
box with the meager collection of wood and ceramic beads got tucked away and moved around with me for the next 15-20 years. The box was pulled out sometime in the 90's when I made custom dream catchers one year for Christmas gift giving. The contents of the little box grew into one of those plastic, divided craft keepers. Again, the box was put away. An article about making earrings was the catalyst to cause me to pull out the bead box & was the next step in my ladder to full-fledged bead addiction. That one little box has grown into a collection in many plastic containers that take up quite a bit of space in my spare room.

Currently, the beading project I'm working on is one of many UFO's (unfinished objects) I have accumulated over some time. I've had the seed bead colors picked out for at least a year & a half to go with the pendant I purchased about 3 years ago. The goal: to make a neck chain to go with the pendant. I first started working up a herringbone stitch rope with the beads, but found the results to be slow. I changed up to working with a St. Petersburg stitch and am really liking the results.

I am not having any luck with posting photos on this blog site yet. When I get it figured out, I'll share photos along the way when I can. Thank you for reading! Hope I can learn to make it interesting!
